Seiko’s New Seiko 5 Sport model watches are by far one of the hottest collections currently out in the market. With the nickname ”5KX’, commonly refer as the replacement for the discontinued SKX007. Seiko has been spending a lot of time and effort into promoting the SKX007 successor.
Just recently, Seiko Thailand have released the New Seiko 5 SRPF91K1 (Mini Gundam Thailand Limited Edition 2563pcs). In case you’re wondering why it is limited to 2563 pieces, it is because Thailand uses the Buddhist calendar which is 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar. The year 2020 CE is indicated as 2563 BE in Thailand.
The New Seiko 5 SRPF91K1 comes with a stainless steel bracelet, as well as a NATO strap with the colors of the country flag of Thailand. In terms of specifications, the SRPF91 Mini Gundam remains the same with no differences as a standard New Seiko 5 SRPD models with the movement of Seiko’s basic automatic Calibre 4R36, 24 jewels, optional manual-winding, 100m water resistant, anti-scratch hardlex crystal, a 41-hour power reserve and a hacking seconds hand.
Instead, the differences are found from the visual aspects of the watch. The dial on the SRPF91 Mini Gundam is set in white, and each of the hour marks are painted with Seiko’s Lumibrite formula for excellent low light visibility. The bezel inserts are presented in a combination of white (from the twenty to sixty minute mark), and navy blue(from zero to the twenty minute mark).
The chapter ring is also presented in two color settings, where instead of using white, it was replaced with red (from the twenty to sixty minute mark), and the navy blue remains the same (from zero to the twenty minute mark).
The hour, minute, as well as the seconds hands are also painted with Seiko’s Lumibrite formula, with the outline in gold around the hour and minute mark, and a red tip and a blue outline around the end of the seconds hands. The New Seiko 5 line will continue to grow by the day.
If I had to pick on something bad to say about the New Seiko 5 collection, perhaps it would be the fact that they are not qualified as a dive watch with only 100m water resistant. However, if you’re not a diver and you are simply looking for a well-made entry-level steel sports watch, then the new Seiko 5 line offer excellent value and tons of variety to suit your personal tastes.
