With 2021 being its 140th year anniversary, and to commemorate the well-deserved success, Seiko decided to released three limited edition Prospex diver models with color inspired by the Japanese diver’s paradise, the tranquil island of Iriomote in Okinawa.

The island of Iriomote in Okinawa Prefecture attracts divers from all over the world. The place is known of its coral reefs and marine life. However, what makes the island so special is the tropical mix of jungle, mangroves and waterfalls that surround it.

To add to that, Iriomote is home to several species of flora and fauna that are rare, and in some instances, unique to the island. With its reefs, jungle, mangrove forests, beaches, rivers and waterfalls, Iriomote is an island of rich and beauty of nature that is reflected in the deep green of the dials in the series of timepieces.

The three models are Seiko Prospex SLA047 (3000 copies), Seiko Prospex SPB207 (6000 copies), and Seiko Prospex SSC807(4000 copies). Of the three models, we’ll be focusing on the Seiko Prospex solar-powered quartz chronograph SSC807 diver watch since we actually have one on hand. The SSC807 model runs on the V192 movement, which is a solar-powered movement that’ll run within 15 seconds a month, and features both a date and a power reserve indicator that’s cleverly integrated into the minute counter at six o’clock. The size of the SSC807 model is as the classic ‘Sumo’, which measures at 44.5mm in diameter and 13.7mm in height, it combines diving credentials (200m water-resistance) with a chronograph function – up to 60 minutes with 1/5th of a second precision.

As a fan of green dials, all three of the 140th anniversary models have definitely got my attention. However, as beautiful as they are, as each of the models are also limited, the prices are certainly a bit steep to my liking, especially during the pandemic and all.
