Seiko has yet again prepared new additions to their rich catalogue. This time, it’s three new members of their long-lived Speedtimer family: SSC941P1, SSC939P1, and SSC943P1. Not only are those Speedtimers, but they are Solar Chronographs as well. Here’s what they bring to the table for Seiko Prospex’s avid fan base.

Seiko Prospex introduces the larger Speedtimer SSC941P1, SSC939P1, and SSC943P1 solar chronographs, reimagining the contemporary watch for enthusiasts seeking a more commanding presence.

Large shoes to fill

Given Seiko’s rich history and constant evolution, it’s safe to say that every new watch Seiko releases has large shoes to fill to live up to their predecessors’ pedigree and fans’ expectations. And those shoes are enormous when it comes to Speedtimer Chronographs. Since the revolutionary Chronograph premiered in 1964 and Speedtimer’s debut in 1969, there have been more than four decades of constant improvements to the Chronograph and Speedtimer families. Seiko regularly introduces new additions to these renowned watch series and always has something up their sleeves to keep their fans eagerly awaiting and accepting newcomers.

All these Solar Speedtimers are powered by battery-driven solar cell, making it an accessible chronograph option for those seeking a watch under $1000.

Time will show if SSC941P1, SSC939P1, and SSC943P1 will also successfully carry their family name. It depends on many factors, and there are no guarantees that it will be so. Still, the first impressions of their looks and features foresee a promising outcome.

Technical characteristics

All three new Seiko Prospex models share the exact technical specifications, following in the footsteps of their Speedtimer and Chronograph predecessors.

  • Stainless steel, 41.4mm diameter, 13.3mm thick case
  • V192 Calibre Solar movement, with an accuracy of -15/+15 seconds per month and as much as six months power reserve when fully charged
  • Overcharge prevention function
  • Curved Sapphire Crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface
  • Screw case back
  • Tachymetry and Chronograph function ( a maximum of 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments)
  • 10 bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance
  • Lumibrite on hands and indexes
  • The small seconds hand and date display

The feature that is instantly noticeable and that separates the three new models from others in the Speedtimer collection is the case diameter. SSC941P1, SSC939P1, and SSC943P1 come with a larger, 41.4mm case size, which adds another dimension to their already prevailing masculine appeal.

Another exciting feature is the tachymetry function. For those unfamiliar with the term, a tachymeter is used to measure the speed of a vehicle over a measured known distance. That’s a feature found in technically advanced watches inspired by or dedicated to aviation and race driving, thus making perfect sense. Our featured Speedtimers come with it. Seiko Solar Speedtimer is a modern chronograph SSC813 pairs rally racing leather watch strap from Strapcode

The Seiko Solar Speedtimer is a modern chronograph, equipped with a tachymeter for measuring speed. To complement the Seiko Solar Speedtimer’s motorsport-inspired design, one of the best pairing watch straps is a rally racing strap. On the left is the previous version, the SSC813, while on the right is the SSC817, both paired with Italian handcrafted leather rally straps for an authentic racing aesthetic.

All three models are primarily designed for adrenaline lovers, racing fans, and people on the move in general. Their larger case, build, durability, and water resistance fit the narrative of active lifestyle lovers. To complement that, the recognized Seiko solar-powered movement secures independence and convenience while being a renowned guarantee of precision and trustworthiness.

As mentioned above, all three new Prospex Speedtimers share the same technical features. However, design differences make it easy to distinguish one from the other. These relate to dial, hand, and bezel design, making each watch unique in appearance.
